ATHANI
Athani is located southwest of Lefkada and it is the last village you come across on your way to Porto Κatsiki and Egremni beaches.
It is built in a green area with stone-built houses and narrow alleys.
The village is famous for its high quality and aromatic honey.
Visitors, after their swim, usually choose to watch the sunset in one of the village's restaurants where they have an amazing view of the vast Ionian sea.
AGIOS PETROS
The village of Agios Petros is one of the largest mountain villages of Lefkada, at a distance of 6 kilometers from Vasiliki,
with a nice view towards the valley and the bay of Vasiliki and towards the ridge of Stavrota, the highest mountain of the island.
It took its name from the homonymous church of Agios Petros, built in the 14th century.
The religious feeling in the village is great, since there are a total of 6 temples in the village and in close proximity.
The surrounding area is ideal for hiking and cycling, amidst wonderful landscapes and a fantastic view of the sea.
To the south nearby is the forgotten village of Roupakias, where its farmhouses stand like guardians of another era.
The beautiful waterfall of Roupakias, where its water pours rapidly in the winter months, has created a very beautiful gorge. Also in the area there are rare species of flora.
In Agios Petros you will find family taverns, cafes, coffee shops and a grocery store.
SIVROS
Sivros is 8 kilometers from Vasiliki with a very nice view towards the Gulf of Vasiliki.
It has rich vegetation because many underground waters and torrents pass through it where they form many springs.
In the surrounding area there were 24 Watermills whose ruins are preserved, one of them has been renovated and is located in the center of the village, close to the main square.
Those who love adventure in nature in the area there are many walking routes with the best being the source path. From 2022, a mountain running race will be organized on this route named Sivros Lefkada Pathway of Springs on the first Sunday of April.
The spring of Daphne located in its southern part, is situated in a dreamy landscape.
The route through the gorge will impress you. It is an enchanting landscape of wild vegetation.
There are ruins of old water mills and waterfalls where the biggest one will enchant you.
At the end of the route you will find the restored Ateliko spring.
Another source of the village that will impress you is the source of Kerasia in the Northern part of the village.
Visit the Karouha Cave southwest of the village and go down the stream where the landscape you will encounter is of unique beauty, a real fairyland as the locals call it.
The fairy door and the small waterfalls that form will impress you.
You will need to use the art of climbing a little in 2-3 places but the scenery will reward you.
You can follow this particular route from the opposite side, you will have to go down to the plain, where the village cemetery is located and just opposite follow the dirt road where you will soon reach a stream and then you will continue straight towards north.
In the village square there is the bust of Alexandros Panagoulis, a man who is a symbol of democracy and freedom, of human rights and civil liberties where he fought against the Dictatorship of the Junta or Regime of the Colonels. (a right-wing military dictatorship that ruled Greece from 1967 to 1974)
Opposite the square in a hall of the primary school you will find the Folklore museum on the social and rural life of the village.
In the village there is also the Olive Fabbrica museum, housed in the site of an old olive mill, a building that has been declared a historical monument.
The taverns of the village are famous for their meat dishes, and are preferred by locals and visitors.
EVGIROS
The village Evgiros is located near Marantochori, on the south-eastern side of Lefkada, at a distance of about 8 km from Vasiliki.
It is located on a hill with a very beautiful view to the sea and also to the plain on the inner side of the island.
The name Evgiros comes from the phrase good old age.
A walk around the village will take you on a journey to another old, beautiful, forgotten era.
Descending from Egiros towards the south, nearby is the well-known Hoirospilia, where, according to the archaeologist Dairpfeld, there were the stables of Eumaios of Homeric Ithaca and the beach of Afteli.
Homer mentions that Odysseus drank water from the Arethusa spring, a fountain located in the village of Evgiros, next to Korakopetra and then hid in the pig's cave, by Eumaios.
In the village there is a very nice traditional tavern.
EGKLOUVI
Egkluvi is located in the center of Lefkada at an altitude of 750 meters,
surrounded by mountains and heights, completely invisible.
It is a traditional village with stone houses and very beautiful alleys.
The well-known Egklouvi lentils are also grown here.
On the Egkluvi plateau, it is worth visiting the church of Agios Donatos and the stone-built promenade.
KARIA
The mountainous village of Karia is located at an altitude of 500 m, amidst an area of lush greenery and nice waterfalls.
You can go to Karya by different routes, to the east it is connected by Nydri to Perigiali and Nikiana, west from Exanthia and Pefkoulia beach and north from Lefkada.
The hallmark of the village is its large square with its huge centuries-old plane trees, where there are several restaurants and cafes.
At a central point the church of Agios Spyridon stands with its imposing bell tower.
Karya keeps its traditional element and cultural tradition alive.
In the village there is a folklore museum and a gramophone and radio phonograph museum.
Every summer a reenactment of the Lefkadian wedding is organized and takes place on the first weekend of August each year and lasts for three days.
The village is also famous for the traditional embroidery that its women still embroider until today.
VAUKERI
Vaukeri is located approximately 9 klm from Nydri and 6 klm from Karya.
The residential character of the village remains almost unchanged, where the stone houses and narrow cobbled streets will take you back in time.
In the wider area of ​​Vaukeri there are two notable religious monuments, the Asomatou Monastery and the Red Church.
EXANTHIA
Exanthia is built amphitheatrically and has an amazing view of the Ionian Sea.
The restaurant Rachi in Exanthia is chosen by the visitors of the island, because of the wonderful panoramic view it has.
You can also try paragliding from this spot.
DRYMONAS
Drymonas is located after Exantheia. It is a quiet traditional village with stone houses built in local architectural style with beautiful gardens.
The view is amazing and many guests choose the Amente cocktail bar-restaurant, to admire the wonderful view and the beautiful sunset.
