ROUTES Sunday, May 25
The mountain marathon race in the mountains and on trails of 42,000 meters has a start and finish at the picturesque port of Vasiliki. Start time 06:00. The race time limit is eight hours. The route is circular.
The first 2 kilometers we run straight towards the coastal sidewalk so everyone will have the opportunity to enter the race smoothly. We leave the pedestrian path and enter the plain of Vasiliki and through a beautiful mountain route we reach the abandoned village of Roupakias (8th km) where we must be very careful because we will pass over the stone bridge. At the point there will be a yellow danger warning sign and volunteers and everyone must slow down because the point is downhill. We continue through the forest and will slowly climb towards the crosses, the highest mountain of Lefkada and we will enter a dirt road (2nd feeding station 10.2km) crossing the crosses where the view towards the bay of Vasiliki is breathtaking. We will reach the village of Agios Ilias passing through an amazing path and the president and volunteers of the village will be waiting for us at the 3rd feeding station 16.4km. We continue along a path towards Vournika with a view of the village of Syvros passing by the Archontiko spring and then by the Klimatsa spring. After the spring we will go back in time passing through the old village of Vournika and immediately after we will arrive inside the village at the Gazana spring where we will meet the president and the village volunteers at the 4th feeding station 20km. Then we will go down the steps opposite the spring and we will cross the entire village downhill, passing by the spring of Makrythodoros. At the exit from the village of Vournika, care will be needed because we will cross a provincial road where a few meters before you will see the yellow danger warning sign again. There will be volunteers at the point. We continue towards Agios Ioannis in Rodaki through the lush forest, passing by the spring of Kanali.
At 23.3km. we will pass a race time limit point.
All athletes should have reached the finish line in 4 hours. Those who reach the point after 4 hours will need to return to the finish line by a different route following the orange hiking route M, covering a total of 32,000 meters, passing by the historic church of Agios Ioannis where it is built on the floor of an ancient Doric temple perhaps dedicated to the goddess Demeter, goddess of agriculture and fertility. Traces of the ancient temple are still preserved today, five columns (Doric capitals) are located in the courtyard of the church, Then we head towards the shooting range where the view towards Stavrota and the villages of Agios Ilias, Sivros and Vournika is impressive and we slowly return to Vasiliki.
Those who pass the race time limit point will continue towards Marantochori where we will again encounter the yellow warning sign because we will cross a provincial road again. The volunteers will direct you to the square and the village clock where we will find the 5th 26.5km feeding station with volunteers from the local cultural association of the village. We continue uphill to the upper part of the village where we will pass through old alleys and to the left of
the village we will find the uphill dirt road that leads to Sivota. We will not reach Sivota but almost at the top of the mountain we will find the old rural road that connects Sivota with Evgiros and we will continue right to the village of Evgiros. The entrance to the village will be impressive through cobblestone streets and with a view of the Ionian Sea we will reach the square where the president and the village priest will be waiting for us at the 6th feeding station 30.5km. We continue immediately after the village on a path that leads to the pig cave of Eumaeus of Homeric Ithaca according to archaeologist Dierpfeld. Perhaps we will also run on soil that the king of Ithaca, Odysseus, once lived and walked on. We continue on a dirt road and on asphalt passing near Afteli beach and continue towards Ammousa beach where we run next to the sea where we will find the 7th feeding station 36.8km and continue towards the beautiful Agiofyli beach which we will pass almost overhead through a path reaching the last feeding station 39.5km, the 8th in a row. A few kilometers are left for our finish, but the route will continue to impress you through trails and breathtaking views.

After passing the northern part of Kontarena we will continue right uphill on a cement road, asphalt and then on a dirt road.
There will be many changes in the terrain with a special part of the 2,300 uphill meters which is the most demanding part of the race, but the view will compensate you. At the top of the mountain there will be water.
